FAQs About Daybed Coffee Table

What's the difference between the Indoor and Outdoor version?

Same teak, same dimensions — the finish is what changes. The Indoor option has a painted finish tuned for interior conditions. The Outdoor option is finished with beeswax, which suits sun and rain exposure. Choose for the room the table will actually live in: an indoor finish is not built to take year-round UV and moisture, so moving an Indoor table permanently onto a patio will wear the finish far faster than the Outdoor version would.

Can I leave it outside all year, and will the teak turn gray?

Yes to outdoors, and yes it will silver — that's cosmetic, not damage. Teak is one of the few woods that stays outdoors untreated: its natural oils keep it structurally sound while the surface weathers. Exposed to sun and rain, the warm honey-brown oxidizes to a soft silver-gray patina. If you like that look, do nothing beyond an occasional rinse. If you want to hold the original tone, keep it sheltered and refresh the beeswax as the color starts to shift. In freezing or heavy-snow climates, cover it or bring it in over winter.

Will this size work in my living room?

It's proportioned for a standard three-seat sofa, and it is deliberately low. At 55" long it follows the two-thirds guideline for a sofa roughly 78–84" wide, and you'll want 14–18" of walking clearance between the sofa front and the table edge. Height is the part worth measuring twice: at 11" this table is built for low-profile living — floor cushions, platform sofas, lounge seating with a 12–16" seat. The usual rule is a top sitting level with the seat cushion or 1–2" below it. If your sofa seat is 18" or higher, this table will read noticeably low and you'll be reaching down for your cup.

Do drinks tip over on the slats, and is it hard to clean between them?

A mug or glass rests across several slats at once, so it sits flat and stable — the exception is narrow-based stemware and small items like keys or coins, which the gaps will let through. Most owners keep a small tray at one end for those. For cleaning, dust falls through instead of collecting on a solid top: run a dry microfiber cloth along the grooves, or use a vacuum with the brush attachment. A soft toothbrush lifts anything stuck. Does teak need to be oiled?

No — oil and wax are about appearance, not protection. Teak already carries a high level of natural oil, which is why it resists rot and insects untreated. Indoors, a light beeswax once or twice a year keeps the tone warm. Outdoors, plain applied oils evaporate within weeks and can interfere with teak's own mold resistance, so either let it silver naturally or use a proper teak sealer rather than a generic oil. For everyday care: dust with a soft dry cloth, skip harsh chemicals, and keep it clear of direct heat.
